15 of the Best Salads Currently at Trader Joe’s, Ranked

August 18, 2026

Trader Joe’s salad section has gotten surprisingly competitive. I worked my way through the current standouts—from crunchy chopped kits to protein-packed grab-and-go bowls—to find the ones with the best combination of flavor, texture, value, and easy meal potential.

1. Miso Crunch Chopped Salad Kit Is the Crunchy Standout

Trader Joe's Miso Crunch Chopped Salad Kit

I had high expectations for this one, and it delivered. The cabbage-heavy base sounds simple, but once the sesame-miso dressing, cashews, sesame seeds, and chow mein noodles get tossed in, it becomes much more interesting.

Price: About $3.99

Taste Test: Savory, slightly sweet and packed with that salty umami flavor I want from miso. The dressing is flavorful without turning the salad into a heavy, creamy mess.

Texture Summary: This is where it really wins. Crisp cabbage and kale meet cashews and crunchy chow mein noodles, so practically every forkful has some crunch.

Make It Better: I add chicken, edamame or even Trader Joe’s Squiggly Noodles when I want to turn it into a full meal. A little extra sesame dressing also helps if you like a heavily dressed salad.

Perfect Pairings: Teriyaki chicken, salmon, crispy tofu or dumplings.

Final Verdict: BUY. One of the easiest Trader Joe’s salad kits for me to recommend and one I’d happily pick up again.

2. Lemony Arugula Basil Salad Kit Tastes Surprisingly Fancy

Trader Joe's Lemony Arugula Basil Salad Kit

This is one of those Trader Joe’s products that doesn’t look particularly exciting in the bag, but everything clicks once it is tossed together. The sharp arugula, Parmesan, almonds and bright dressing make it taste much more restaurant-like.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Peppery arugula hits first, followed by salty Parmesan and a tangy lemon-basil vinaigrette. The dressing has enough sweetness and acidity to keep the bitter greens balanced.

Texture Summary: Light and crisp with just enough crunch from the roasted almonds and carrots.

Make It Better: I add a squeeze of lemon and sometimes extra Parmesan. If the arugula is too aggressive, mixing in baby spinach mellows everything out.

Perfect Pairings: Grilled salmon, chicken, steak, creamy pasta or roasted chickpeas.

Final Verdict: BUY. Simple, fresh and easily one of the most sophisticated bagged salads at Trader Joe’s.

3. Avocado Ranch Salad Kit Is Basically Taco Salad in a Bag

Trader Joe's Avocado Ranch Salad Kit

This one leans much more indulgent than leafy and virtuous, which is exactly why I enjoyed it. Between the creamy avocado ranch, Cheddar and crunchy corn chips, it eats more like a loaded taco salad.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Creamy, tangy and slightly savory with a mild avocado flavor. The Cheddar and salty corn chips make it especially satisfying.

Texture Summary: Excellent crunch thanks to sturdy cabbage, carrots and corn chips.

Make It Better: I add lime, avocado, roasted corn and black beans. For a full dinner, shredded chicken or crispy chicken nuggets work surprisingly well.

Perfect Pairings: Chicken, beef birria, tacos, quesadillas or grilled shrimp.

Final Verdict: BUY. Not the lightest salad here, but definitely one of the most fun and filling.

4. Field Fresh Chopped Salad With Grilled Chicken Deserves More Attention

Trader Joe's Field Fresh Chopped Salad With Grilled Chicken

This isn’t the flashiest salad in the refrigerator case, but it ended up being one of my favorite complete lunches. The combination of chicken, couscous, currants, pecans and sweet basil dressing feels much more substantial than basic greens.

Price: Around $5.49–$6.49

Taste Test: The sweet basil dressing brings everything together, balancing savory chicken and cheese with subtle sweetness from the currants.

Texture Summary: Tender chicken and couscous make it hearty while pecans and vegetables keep it from feeling soft or boring.

Make It Better: A little cracked pepper and an extra handful of greens stretch it into a bigger lunch without diluting the flavor.

Perfect Pairings: Soup, crusty bread, sparkling water or a light white wine.

Final Verdict: BUY. One of my favorite choices when I want an actual lunch rather than just a side salad. It also finished at the top of a July 2026 prepared-salad tasting.

5. Broccoli Slaw & Kale Salad With Chicken Is a Trader Joe’s Classic

Trader Joe's Broccoli Slaw & Kale Salad With Chicken

There is a reason this salad keeps building such a loyal following. It doesn’t rely on delicate lettuce; instead, broccoli slaw and kale make up a sturdy base that stands up beautifully to the chicken, sunflower seeds and dressing.

Price: Around $6.49

Taste Test: Sweet, savory and slightly tangy. The dried cranberries add little pops of sweetness while the dressing keeps the tougher greens flavorful.

Texture Summary: Outstanding. Broccoli slaw stays crisp, sunflower seeds add crunch and the chicken gives each bite some substance.

Make It Better: I add avocado and a squeeze of fresh lemon to cut through the sweeter dressing.

Perfect Pairings: Tomato soup, sourdough, roasted vegetables or a simple cup of fruit.

Final Verdict: BUY. One of Trader Joe’s most reliable grab-and-go salads and especially good if you dislike soggy lettuce.

6. Caesar Salad With Salmon Turns a Basic Caesar Into Lunch

Trader Joe's Caesar Salad With Salmon

Trader Joe’s took an ordinary refrigerated Caesar and made it much more useful simply by adding a generous piece of salmon. I especially liked how the richer fish works against the tangy dressing and crunchy Parmesan crisps.

Price: $6.99

Taste Test: Creamy, savory and noticeably lemony, with enough Parmesan flavor to stand up to the salmon.

Texture Summary: Crisp romaine and crunchy Parmesan pieces contrast nicely with the soft, rich salmon.

Make It Better: I add cracked black pepper, fresh lemon juice and sometimes avocado.

Perfect Pairings: Sourdough bread, tomato soup or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

Final Verdict: BUY. At $6.99, it costs more than the salad kits, but I think the included salmon makes the price much easier to justify.

7. Chickpea, Kale & Crispy Red Rice Salad Is the Vegan Sleeper Hit

Trader Joe's Chickpea, Kale & Crispy Red Rice Salad

I wasn’t expecting this packaged salad to be nearly as satisfying as it was. Chickpeas give it substance, while vegetables, kale, crispy red rice and avocado-herb vinaigrette keep it tasting bright instead of like a dense bean salad.

Price: About $4.99

Taste Test: Fresh, herbaceous and lightly tangy. The avocado-herb dressing is the real surprise and keeps the earthy chickpeas from tasting flat.

Texture Summary: The crispy red rice is easily my favorite part, adding crunch against the creamy chickpeas.

Make It Better: Avocado, extra lemon or plantain chips take this to another level.

Perfect Pairings: Plantain chips, falafel, hummus, pita or grilled chicken if you don’t need it vegan.

Final Verdict: BUY. Filling, completely different from the standard TJ’s salad and one of my favorite meatless lunches.

8. Peanut Udon Noodle Salad Is More Noodles Than Salad—and I’m Fine With That

Trader Joe's Peanut Udon Noodle Salad

When I want something cold and refreshing but leafy greens aren’t appealing, this is the one I reach for. Thick udon noodles, crunchy vegetables, peanuts and a rich peanut dressing make it feel closer to takeout.

Price: $4.99

Taste Test: Nutty, savory and slightly sweet with ginger, garlic and soy notes coming through the peanut dressing.

Texture Summary: Soft, chewy udon against crisp cabbage, carrots and crunchy peanuts is a great combination.

Make It Better: Fresh lime, chili crisp and extra cilantro make a noticeable difference.

Perfect Pairings: Gyoza, chicken, tofu, edamame or spring rolls.

Final Verdict: BUY. It ranked near the very top of a July 2026 Trader Joe’s prepared-salad tasting, and I understand why.

9. Sweet Onion Salad Kit Is All About the Dressing

Trader Joe's Sweet Onion Salad Kit

This newer salad immediately grabbed my attention because the ingredient list sounds almost like something from a steakhouse: greens, sharp white Cheddar, fried onions, garlic croutons and a sweet onion vinaigrette.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Sweet, tangy and savory with a strong onion flavor that never becomes harsh. The sharp Cheddar keeps the dressing from tasting overly sweet.

Texture Summary: Crispy greens, crunchy croutons and fried onions give this kit plenty of texture.

Make It Better: Grilled chicken or steak turns this into an easy dinner. I also like a little extra black pepper.

Perfect Pairings: Steak, roast chicken, burgers or baked potatoes.

Final Verdict: BUY. The dressing alone makes this one worth trying, although Trader Joe’s currently lists it as a limited-time item.

10. Southwestern Chopped Salad Kit Is My Easy Taco-Night Shortcut

Trader Joe's Southwestern Chopped Salad Kit

This kit doesn’t reinvent Southwestern salad, but it executes the basics really well. Crisp cabbage and romaine get loaded with Cotija, pepitas, tortilla strips, herbs and a creamy avocado-poblano-style dressing.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Creamy, slightly spicy and zesty, with Cotija adding the salty punch that keeps the salad from tasting bland.

Texture Summary: Very crunchy. The cabbage, pepitas and tortilla strips hold up particularly well after dressing.

Make It Better: I add black beans, avocado, corn, lime and either pollo asado or leftover steak.

Perfect Pairings: Tacos, enchiladas, grilled chicken, carne asada or fish.

Final Verdict: BUY. Not the most adventurous kit at Trader Joe’s, but arguably one of the easiest to turn into dinner.

11. Elote Chopped Salad Kit Brings Serious Street-Corn Flavor

Trader Joe's Elote Chopped Salad Kit

The ingredient list sold me immediately: Cotija, smoky cornbread crumbles, dried corn and creamy elote dressing over a crunchy chopped vegetable base. It definitely has more personality than the average supermarket salad kit.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Smoky, creamy, tangy and a little spicy. The Cotija and corn flavor give it that Mexican street-corn inspiration.

Texture Summary: Lots of crunch from cabbage, corn kernels and cornbread crumbles.

Make It Better: My biggest upgrade is simply adding more corn. Avocado, cilantro and fresh lime also brighten up the heavier dressing.

Perfect Pairings: Carne asada, grilled chicken, shrimp tacos, burgers or black beans.

Final Verdict: BUY. The dressing can be heavy, so I use slightly less than the full packet, but the flavor combination keeps me coming back.

12. Dill-icious Chopped Salad Kit Is a Pickle Lover’s Dream

Trader Joe's Dill-icious Chopped Salad Kit

Trader Joe’s didn’t play it safe here. This salad combines crunchy vegetables with creamy dill-cucumber ranch, dill seasoning and crushed pickle-flavored potato chips. It sounds excessive, but once tossed together, it somehow works.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Tangy, creamy and unmistakably dill-forward. If you love pickles, there’s very little subtlety here—and that’s the appeal.

Texture Summary: Fantastic crunch from cabbage, radish, cauliflower and those pickle chips.

Make It Better: I add grilled chicken for protein and save some of the chips to sprinkle on immediately before eating.

Perfect Pairings: Chicken, burgers, barbecue, salmon or sandwiches.

Final Verdict: BUY if you love dill. Pickle haters should run, but pickle fans will probably demolish the bag.

13. Cranberry Orange Spinach Salad Kit Nails Sweet and Savory

Trader Joe's Cranberry Orange Spinach Salad Kit

This newer kit feels like something I would normally have to assemble myself. Spinach gets paired with cranberries, blue cheese, honey-roasted pecans and orange-citrus dressing for a surprisingly complete sweet-savory combination.

Price: $3.99

Taste Test: Bright orange acidity cuts through the blue cheese while cranberries and honey-roasted pecans bring plenty of sweetness.

Texture Summary: Soft spinach contrasts nicely with chewy cranberries and crunchy pecans.

Make It Better: I add sliced apple or pear and use the dressing gradually so the spinach doesn’t become weighed down.

Perfect Pairings: Roast chicken, turkey, pork tenderloin or a simple cheese board.

Final Verdict: BUY. Especially good if you like fruit and cheese in your salads. Trader Joe’s has indicated this updated version is intended as an everyday item rather than merely a holiday release.

14. Sesame Miso Salad With Salmon Has the Dressing I Want Bottled

If I’m paying more for a refrigerated salad, I want it to taste noticeably different from something I could throw together at home. The savory sesame-miso dressing is what gives this salmon salad that extra reason to buy it.

Price: $6.99

Taste Test: Salty, nutty, savory and deeply umami-forward. The miso dressing is easily the strongest component and works extremely well with salmon.

Texture Summary: Tender salmon and greens get contrast from crunchy vegetable toppings and crispy elements.

Make It Better: I chop the salmon into smaller pieces before tossing so I get some in every bite. Edamame and extra sesame seeds are easy upgrades.

Perfect Pairings: Miso soup, edamame, dumplings or green tea.

Final Verdict: BUY. I wish there were a little more salmon, but the dressing is good enough that I’d still grab it again.

15. Chinese Inspired Salad With Chicken Is Better With a Few Easy Upgrades

This is the simplest salad in my top 15. Lettuce, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, chicken, crispy noodles and soy-sesame dressing give it familiar Chinese-chicken-salad flavors, although it needs a little help to become memorable.

Price: Around $5.99–$6.49

Taste Test: Sweet, savory and sesame-forward. I like the dressing, although it can lean sweeter than I prefer if I use the entire packet.

Texture Summary: The cabbage, snow peas and crispy noodles provide good crunch, but the chicken can be slightly dry.

Make It Better: Extra chicken, chopped almonds, cilantro, green onion and a squeeze of lime completely transform it. I also hold back some dressing.

Perfect Pairings: Potstickers, spring rolls, wonton soup or fried rice.

Final Verdict: BUY WITH UPGRADES. It isn’t my first choice straight from the container, but a few easy additions make it a very solid lunch.
