Soy Sorry: The Worst Soy Sauce on Grocery Store Shelves!

March 22, 2025

Soy sauce is a must-have in many kitchens, especially if you enjoy Asian cuisine. It’s as important as the type of rice you might always buy. But what happens when you can’t find your favorite soy sauce at the store?

The Worst Pick: Kroger Soy Sauce

When we tested several soy sauces, we looked at things like how they’re packaged, how they taste, how they smell, and their color. We know everyone likes different tastes and soy sauce is very important in many Asian dishes. However, one brand that didn’t do well at all was Kroger Soy Sauce.

Why Kroger Soy Sauce Doesn’t Make the Cut

The biggest problem with Kroger’s soy sauce is that it’s way too salty. It has 1,340 milligrams of sodium in just one tablespoon, which is a lot! This much salt hides any other flavors and makes it taste more like plain salt than soy sauce.

There’s also a strong chemical taste in Kroger’s soy sauce. This happens because they use a quick method to make their soy sauce that leaves behind a bad taste. Even though they try to mix it with better-tasting soy sauce, it doesn’t really help, and it still tastes bad.

Because it tasted so bad, our tester had to spit it out. That shows how much we didn’t like it. Soy sauce should make your food taste better, not worse.

Better Alternatives

If you need to find another soy sauce, go for brands like Kikkoman. Kikkoman soy sauce is well-liked because it tastes good and adds just the right flavor to dishes without being too strong. It’s a good choice if you need something reliable.

Conclusion

Soy sauce is supposed to add great flavor to your meals, but Kroger’s soy sauce just makes things taste too salty and unpleasant. Next time you’re at the store, it might be better to choose a different brand to make sure your meals taste good. Keep trying different brands until you find one that you really like.
