Costco Price Shock: The 18 Staples That Quietly Got Expensive

March 25, 2026

Costco still has deals—but some fan-favorite staples have jumped hard.

From Kirkland bacon and olive oil to food-court favorites and coffee, these everyday buys climbed fast.

Here are the biggest price increases, plus a few shrinkflation surprises to watch.

Kirkland Signature Fully Cooked Bacon — $11.00 (2019) ➜ $15.99 (2026)

  • While prices peaked near $18.00 in late 2024, warehouse reports now show a slight cooling to the $15.99 range, though still significantly higher than pre-2020 levels.

Kirkland Signature Purified Water (40-pack) — $2.79 (2019) ➜ $4.39 (2026)

  • The price has stabilized slightly lower than the $4.53 peak seen last year. It remains a high-volume riser but has resisted further hikes in the first quarter of 2026.

Kirkland Signature Organic Olive Oil (3L) — $25.00 (2021) ➜ $34.99 (2026)

  • Costco has largely moved away from the 2-pack format for the 3L bottles to manage price perception. A single 3L bottle now sits at $34.99, meaning a “virtual” 2-pack would cost nearly $70.00 compared to your previous $50.99 note.

Kirkland Signature Wild Caught Alaska Sockeye Salmon (3 lb bag) — $26.99–$29.99 ➜ $47.29 (2026)

  • This item continues its upward trajectory. Due to tighter fishing quotas and supply chain shifts, the 3 lb bag has seen another incremental jump from the $45.39 reported in 2025.

Kirkland Signature Organic Orange Juice (2-pack, 59 fl oz) — “under $10” ➜ $14.99 (2026)

  • The price for the organic 2-pack has remained steady at $14.99 since early 2025, matching the previous high-water mark.

Food Court Chicken Bake — $2.99 ➜ $3.99 (2026)

  • The price has remained unchanged at $3.99 since the 2022 increase. It appears to have reached a new “permanent” price floor.

Red Meat: USDA Choice Boneless Ribeye — $14.49/lb ➜ $17.99/lb (2026)

  • While beef prices remain volatile, the $21.55/lb extreme seen in some test warehouses has corrected. Most warehouses currently list Choice Ribeye at approximately $17.99/lb.

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Covered Almonds (48 oz bag) — $14.99–$18.99 ➜ $19.99 (2026)

  • Cocoa prices have finally begun to stabilize after the 2024 surge. The price has dropped from the $24.50 test warehouse peak back down to $19.99.

Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Almonds — $14.99 (2020) ➜ $19.99 (2026)

  • Similar to the dark chocolate variety, these have cooled from their $21.59 high to a more consistent $19.99 warehouse price.

Bakery Butter Croissants (12-count) — $4.99 ➜ $5.99 (2026)

  • Interestingly, while some warehouses tested $6.99–$7.93, many regions have settled back to $5.99 in early 2026, though still a dollar higher than the original staple price.

Kirkland Signature Coffee (2.5 lb bag) — $9.99 (2020) ➜ $18.99 (2026)

  • Coffee remains expensive compared to 2020, but the $20.99 peak has eased slightly to $18.99 in most markets.

Kirkland Signature Colombian Coffee (3 lb canister) — ~$10 ➜ $23.99 (2026)

  • This item is still one of the most significant long-term risers. While it has dipped slightly from the $24.96 peak, it remains over $23.00 at most locations.

Bakery Muffins — $9.99 (12-pack) ➜ $6.99 (8-pack) (2026)

  • The “effective increase” remains in place via the smaller packaging. The per-muffin price is currently holding at $0.87, identical to your December update.

Food Court Hot Turkey & Provolone Sandwich — $3.99 ➜ $6.99 (2026)

  • The price has held firm at $6.99 since its return to the menu, showing no signs of returning to the sub-$5 range.

Kirkland Signature Sparkling Water (35-count) — $7.00 (2019) ➜ $13.19 (2026)

  • A minor downward adjustment from the $13.61 peak, but the price is still nearly double what it was in 2019.

Coca-Cola/Diet Coke (35-count case) — $14.29 (2022) ➜ $19.79 (2026)

  • Prices for name-brand soda have corrected from the $24.96 highs. While the “sticker price” is often $24.59, frequent instant savings bring the actual register price closer to $19.79.

Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (72 oz) — $10.99 ➜ $29.53 (2026)

  • After being temporarily discontinued in some regions due to “mind-baffling” cocoa costs ($39.99+), the 72 oz bag has returned. While it is lower than the peak, it is still nearly triple its original price.

Kirkland Signature Italian Sausage & Beef Lasagna — $9.99 (2020) ➜ $17.99 (2026)

  • The lasagna is now primarily sold as a 2-pack (6 lbs total) for $17.99. While the total ticket is higher, the per-unit price (~$9.00) is actually lower than the $12.99 single-tray price cited previously.

Kirkland Signature Steak Strips (12 oz) — $9.99 (2020) ➜ $12.79 (2026)

  • This item has remained stable at the $12.79 price point mentioned in your previous update.

Snack Factory Organic Pretzel Crisps (28 oz) — $6.89 (2020) ➜ $8.99 (2026)

  • This remains at the $8.99 price point, with some regional variations pushing it to $9.49 in higher-cost markets like Hawaii or Alaska.
