- What a penny event is. When Dollar Tree discontinues an item, corporate drops its price to $0.01 nationwide — typically activating on Mondays. These were regular $1.25–$5 items the day before.
- The list is national. Unlike Dollar General, there’s no store-by-store variation in pricing — every item below is $0.01 at every Dollar Tree. What varies is whether your store has already pulled it from the shelf.
- Bring the SKU. Most penny items vanish from the website, so save the SKU/UPC from this list to match items in store — names on the shelf tag can differ from the internal name we list.
- Verify at the register or self-checkout. Dollar Tree has no shelf-price scanner app — the only reliable check is scanning it at checkout. If it rings up $0.01, it’s a penny item.
- Don’t ask employees to price-check. Penny items are flagged for removal; asking gives staff a chance to pull it before you can buy. Some stores may decline penny sales at their discretion — that’s the trade-off with penny shopping.
