Price matching is an easy way to save money on your grocery bill, but it’s not always as straightforward as it seems. To get started, you’ll need to determine which stores in your area offer price matching.
If you love shopping at Kroger, you may be wondering if they price match other stores. Here’s all you need to know about whether Kroger has a price matching policy.

Does Kroger Price Match Other Stores?
Kroger doesn’t have a price match policy. Like many grocers, Kroger has chosen to forgo the hassle of price matching in favor of its own coupons and discounting policies.
Kroger doesn’t offer price matching because they believe in providing the lowest prices on their products every day. They also offer discounts on specific items and have weekly specials advertised throughout their stores.
Advantages of shopping at Kroger
Kroger is one of the largest retailers in the United States in grocery shopping — it ranks second in the nation. With more than 2,700 stores across 35 states, it’s no wonder why customers often shop there.
Shopping at Kroger can save you money. Here are some of the reasons:
- Kroger has a fuel rewards program that saves you money on gas. The more you spend, the more you save
- Kroger offers digital coupons through its mobile app. You can use the vouchers to get discounts on specific products
- You can take advantage of deals on Kroger’s free Friday offers
- Kroger has weekly sales and specials, which you can view online or in the store’s circulars
- Kroger offers online ordering (and curbside pickup) in most areas, which is convenient for busy customers and people with limited mobility
Does Kroger Price Match Online Prices?
Kroger doesn’t match online prices. However, it offers discounts to customers who use the Kroger app and have a Kroger Plus card.
The Kroger app allows customers to load digital coupons onto their account and use them at checkout if they have their Kroger Plus card linked to the app. However, you cannot use digital coupons together with paper coupons.
Does Kroger Price Match Other Kroger Stores?
Kroger does price match other Kroger stores. You may need to bring in the ad or proof of the price, and a Kroger associate will match that price at check-out.
However, if your nearest Kroger store is offering a promotion on an item, you can’t price match another store advertising the same product for less. But if your store doesn’t have a sale going on, you can take advantage of their lower prices.
How Does Price Matching Work?
With price matching, stores offer to match a competitor’s price if you find an item for less somewhere else. For example, Kroger may be selling a particular product at $50 while another store sells it at $45. If you can prove this to Kroger, you may be able to purchase the item at Kroger for $45.
Price matching policies vary among retailers. Some will only match prices from certain stores, and others will only match specific items.
Some stores require you to bring in proof of the lower price in the form of a newspaper clipping or printed advertisement. Others allow you to show an online ad on your phone.
What grocery stores allow price matching?
Grocery stores that offer price matching include:
- Target – offers a price match guarantee
- BestBuy
- Walmart – The manager on duty has the final say about the price match
- Kohl
- JC Penney
- Bed Bath & Beyond
- Home Depot

I am an Alberque NM resident (we have Smith’s stores) and have two comments to make:
1) Whenever I have drawn attention to incorrect pricing, NEVER have I ever been given that item for free. Yes, they adjust the price at the checkout but I have never been given it for free.
Which brings me to point no. 2.
2) I now never leave the store without scanning my receipt for errors as I find them FAR TOO OFTEN. I then have to queue up at Customer Services, even assuming that it is manned, to get the overpayment(s) back. As I wrote, this happens far too frequently and is totally unacceptable.
I shall now visit Smith’s website and find the policy referred to above and will never leave home again without it.
Thanks for the information.
I totally agree, and same thing happens here in Richmond VA. It’s very frustrating and waste a LOT of my time. I even speak to a manager today for the 5 items that has wrong prices. She correct the prices but didn’t bother to say a sorry. Very disappointed ?
