We Finally Checked Out The Naan Bread At Costco

I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I’ve been trying to find naan bread at my local Costco for the past four months. Every time I look, they’re completely cleared out. I started to wonder if Costco had discontinued naan altogether.

But finally, this past week, I was completely surprised to find a fresh stock of Stonefire Mini Naan in the bread section at my local store. Of course, I had to grab a package before they disappeared again. And now I’m here to tell you all about what I thought.

Naan Bread At Costco

Stonefire Naan At Costco

After all my months of searching, I ended up finding these packages of Stonefire Mini Naan in the bread aisle at my local Costco, right next to the packages of pita bread.

Some Costco locations also sell a product called Naan Dippers from Stonefire, but I was unable to find them at my local store. That said, if you shop through Costco Business Delivery (for commercial addresses only), you can order Stonefire Naan Dippers on CostcoBusinessDelivery.com here for $8.18 per package.

Unfortunately, Costco does not seem to be selling any naan bread on their website as of April 2023.

Stonefire products are also sold at other major grocery retailers, including Safeway, Target, Amazon, and more.

Price

These 18 packs of Stonefire Mini Naan are currently being sold at Costco for just $6.59 a bag. That’s only 36 cents per naan!

Ingredients & Nutrition

As you can see, this product is made with enriched wheat flour, buttermilk, water, soybean oil, cultured wheat flour, eggs, sugar, baking powder (contains cornstarch), sea salt, ghee (clarified butter), wheat gluten, dextrose, dextrin, carrot fiber, and yeast.

Unfortunately, this product is not gluten free or vegan as it contains wheat, milk, and eggs. Stonefire Naan used to be vegan, so this is especially important to note if you have been buying Stonefire products for a long time. This naan is also produced in a facility where soy products are processed.

In each serving of this naan (one piece), you will be consuming 130 calories from 3 grams of fat, 5 mg of cholesterol, 350 mg of sodium, 22 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fiber, 2 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of protein. Some sources online claim that Stonefire increased the number of calories in this naan to 150, but this is not true.

How To Prepare

According to the label, there are four different ways to heat up this naan–in the oven, on the grill, in the toaster, or in the microwave.

To keep things as traditional as possible, we recommend using either the oven (a toaster oven is fine) or the grill. Putting your naan in a regular toaster will result in a crisper texture while microwaving it will likely result in a soggier texture

That said, this Reddit user is happy with the result after microwaving…

Whichever prep method you choose, Stonefire recommends spritzing your naan with a little water before heating to help it stay soft.

How To Store

When you first buy your Stonefire Naan from Costco, it can be stored in a number of ways. If you plan to eat it fairly quickly, you can simply store it on your counter top at room temperature. However, your naan bread will likely start to mold if you store it outside of the fridge for too long.

If you plan to hold onto your package of naan for more than a couple days, you’ll want to throw it in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Finally, if you want to keep your naan fresh for longer than a week, pop it in the freezer. Stonefire Naan can retain its freshness for up to one year, according to the company’s FAQs.

My Honest Review

To keep things easy, I decided to heat up my naan in the toaster oven. In the photo above, you can see what my naan looked like once it was heated up (note: the plate is small, making the naan look big!).

The packaging recommends heating for just 1 minute at 400°F in the oven, but I opted to go slightly longer at a lower temp. I ended up heating up my naan for about 4 minutes at 350°F, and I was happy with the result. It was still soft, warm all the way through, and had just a little bit of a crust on the outside.

I really liked the texture of this naan. It’s soft, moist, and tears easily. The flavor is rich, buttery, and satisfying. But I honestly can’t say that it tasted much like traditional naan. I’m used to naan being a bit more airy and light, whereas this bread is fairly dense and almost pastry-like. It honestly reminds me more of pita bread than naan.

If you’re looking for an easy pocket-type bread that you can store in your freezer and pop in the toaster whenever you want, then these Stonefire Mini Naans are definitely a good option! I would just warn anyone who’s expecting a traditional naan experience that you probably won’t find it with these Stonefire products. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t delicious!
