When you buy a television from Walmart, you will have the option of purchasing an optional insurance plan known as a Walmart Protection Plan. These Protection Plans are powered by Allstate Insurance.
While some electronic items sold at Walmart qualify for accident protection (namely laptops, phones, and tablets), Walmart only offers standard coverage plans for their TVs. This means that accidents, spills, loss, or theft are never covered by these plans.
Regardless of which plan you purchase, Walmart’s TV Protection Plans (also known as SquareTrade plans) cover basic mechanical or electrical failures within a three to five year window.

What’s Not Covered?
Walmart only offers Standard Protection Plans for their TVs. They do not offer accident plans.
This means that the following are not covered under your Walmart TV warranty:
- Theft
- Loss
- Accidental damage
- Intentional damage
- Cracks
- Spills
- Defects caused by operating your TV incorrectly
Regardless of whether or not you have a warranty, Walmart offers a 30-day return window on all TV purchases. So, if something happens to your TV within these first 30 days, it’s worth trying to get a refund. To learn all about returning a TV to Walmart, check out our post about it here.
How Does The Walmart TV Warranty Work?
Walmart TV Protection Plans work in four basic steps:
- Purchase your Protection Plan within 30 days of purchasing your TV
- Register your TV with Walmart to get connected with your new warranty (optional)
- In the case of mechanical or electrical failure or defect, file a claim online
- Your claim will either be approved or denied (if approved, Allstate Insurance will pay to have your TV fixed or replaced)
Most claims are approved instantly, although sometimes this process may take a bit longer.
Walmart TV Protection Plans last between three and five years depending on which plan you purchase. Check out Walmart’s 5-year, 4-year, and 3-year TV Protection Plans online to learn more.
Registration is not required prior to filing a claim. However, it can make filing your claim quicker and easier. To register your TV, click here.

Pricing For Walmart Protection Plans
Walmart Protection Plans for TVs range in price from $39 to $70. These are flat rates and do not need to be renewed yearly even for multi-year plans.
These prices are dependent on the value of your TV as well as how long your warranty coverage lasts.
Walmart’s 5-year TV Protection Plans cost $70 and cover TVs that cost between $350 and $399.99.
Walmart’s 4-year TV Protection Plans cost $55 and cover TVs that cost between $400 and $599.99.
Finally, Walmart’s 3-year TV Protection Plans cost $39 and cover TVs that cost between $300 and $399.99.
Be sure to buy a plan that correctly corresponds to the value of your TV.
How To File A TV Warranty Claim
To file a claim for your Walmart TV, click here.
You will need your receipt to file your claim.
If your warranty claim is approved, Allstate will pay to have your item repaired. If it cannot be repaired, your item will either be replaced or you will be reimbursed to purchase a replacement item yourself.
If you do not have a Walmart Protection Plan, you will need to contact your TV’s manufacturer directly to find out how to file a manufacturer’s warranty claim.
Filing A Warranty Claim Without A Receipt
Unfortunately, without any proof of purchase, you will not be able to file a warranty claim with a Walmart Protection Plan.
This is one of the main reasons why registering your TV with your insurance plan as soon as possible is a good idea. Once you’ve done this, your purchase information will be saved in your Allstate warranty account, and you will not need to find your receipt again when the time comes to file a claim.
Also remember that if you made your purchase online through Walmart.com or the Walmart app, a record of your transaction will be permanently saved to your online account. Simply find the transaction record in your account and provide your order number with your claim.
Are Walmart TV Warranties Worth It?
Generally speaking, third-party warranties sold by places like Walmart are seen as being more cost than benefit to the customer.
This is because high-cost items like televisions almost always come with their own manufacturer warranties that cover the same things that the Walmart Protection Plans cover.
For example, Samsung typically offers a standard 3-year warranty on their TVs at no extra cost. This also means that you’ll be working directly with your TV’s manufacturer should a repair or replacement become necessary. This can save you a lot of time and headache that could come along with going through a third-party insurance company.
Philips, another popular manufacturer of TVs sold at Walmart, tends to provide warranties that offer up to two years of coverage from the date of purchase.
If Walmart offered accident coverage for their TVs, it would be a different story. But since they don’t, it’s really not worth the investment.
In other words, skip the Walmart warranty and just trust that your manufacturer has you covered.
