This long lost Girl Scout Cookie dupe will bring a smile to the face of any chocolate and caramel lover!
A long, long time ago, in a decade far, far away called the 1980s, your girl here donned her green sash and sat around the Girl Scout Camp fire, singing the Australian round “Kookaburra.”
“Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh kookaburra
Gay your life must be.”
Come on, everyone! Sing along! … or, maybe I’m the only one who remembers this song?
Why did American Girl Scouts sing a song about an Australian laughing bird around their campfires? The world may never know.
Kookaburra Girl Scout Cookie
What I do know is that I am not making this up, because there was also a Kookaburra Girl Scout Cookie in the 1980s. (Take that, skeptics!)
The Kookaburra was called a “cookie bar” on the box, and it had a caramel center, a crispy cookie and a chocolate outer coating. And, it was my absolute favorite.
But all good things must come to an end, and just like the neon clothes and jelly shoes I also loved in the ’80s, Kookaburras went out of style and disappeared from the Girl Scout Cookie roster.
Girl Scout Cookie Dupe
But just like those neon clothes and jelly shoes, Kookaburras are making a comeback!
Aldi is selling the Girl Scout Cookie Dupe of my dreams!
Aldi describes these Benton’s Delights as “cocoa cookies filled with a cocoa cream and caramel filling, and coated in chocolate.”
We bought a package to try them, not realizing what was in store. In fact, I ate a couple of these cookies and kept thinking, “Hmmm, these taste so familiar, but I can’t place them.”
And then I noticed that the package says they are an Australian favorite, and the first word that came to my mind was “Kookaburra!”
For the caramel haters among us (who ARE you people?), there is also a straight up chocolate version of Benton’s Delights cookies.
These treats sell for $1.99, and they have been flying off the shelves in the Aisle of Shame at our Aldi, so go find them quickly if you’re interested!

The delights are actually a spin off of the Australian Tim Tam cookies. Which are AMAZING! They are sold in the same type of container with the same cookie count. I just wish they had the dark chocolate or dark chocolate mint versions. The cookies are hard to come by in the US, so when I found these I was delighted. Pun intended!
