Many online sources claim that certain large Walmart Supercenters house banks or credit unions that offer notary services. However, we checked these sources extensively and were not able to confirm this information. All of the sources making these claims were unable to provide any concrete information about these locations or the services they allegedly offer. (Don’t believe everything you read online!)
Alternatives
Because you most likely won’t be able to have your documents notarized at Walmart, you will need to look elsewhere. Luckily, there are plenty of places where you can seek notary services in the US.
One of the most common places to have documents notarized is at The UPS Store. The UPS Store is equipped to notarize wills, trusts, deeds, contracts, and affidavits, among other document types.
The UPS Store offers notary services on an appointment only basis. You will need to call your local UPS Store to make an appointment. Check with your UPS Store to make sure that they are equipped to notarize the type of document you have, as not all UPS Stores can notarize all legal documents. While the vast majority of UPS Store locations in the US offer notary services, there are a couple hundred stores that do not.

Although these types of locations are commonly equipped to offer notary services, it’s always a good idea to call ahead and make sure before arriving with your documents.

It’s important to note that notary services often come at a cost, ranging from $10 and up per document.
However, there are several ways to have your documents notarized for free. The most common way is to visit your own bank. Some major banks offer free notary services for their customers, most notably Bank of America. However, all banks and credit unions are at least somewhat likely to offer complimentary notary services.
How To Get Something Notarized
To have a document notarized, follow these steps…
- First, determine what kind of document you are needing notarized
- Research your options for local notary services (consider contacting your bank first since there is a good chance they will offer the service for free)
- Ask if the notary is equipped to notarize the specific type of document you have
- If yes, request to schedule an appointment
- When you arrive for your appointment, bring your document (unsigned) as well as a valid, government-issued photo ID (in some states, a birth certificate is allowed in place of a photo ID, but this is not allowed in most places)
- During your appointment, your notary will ask you a series of questions to verify your identity and capacity to sign your legal document
- Finally, you will be asked to sign your document in the presence of the notary and your notary will then provide the official notary stamp
