The Aldi Pineapple Slicer is coming back to the Aisle of Shame!
A long, long time ago, before the state I lived in at the time had Aldi stores, I began a love affair with fresh sliced pineapple.
I was pregnant, and that weird thing that pregnant women often experience, when they want the same foods all the time, hit me hard.
I lived on these three items during that time: cinnamon and spice instant oatmeal, Pizza Hut cheesy breadsticks, and fresh pineapple.
I walked to the supermarket behind my work every day on my lunch break, where I dropped $5 or so on one precious container of my sweet fruit craving.
I would look at whole pineapples in the store and realize how much money I could save by slicing one myself. But, I was way too intimidated to try to cut the scary-looking thing.
That baby has her driver’s license now, but my love of fresh pineapple continues.
Then last summer, while cruising the Aisle of Shame, I came upon this contraption.
Yes, it looks like some instrument of torture, but it is, in fact, the simplest device EVER to cut a pineapple.
Slice off the top and bottom of the pineapple, position those teeth at the top of the fruit around the core, and start turning that handle.
When you reach the bottom of the fruit, you can slide your already sliced pineapple right out of its leathery rind. Pull the Aldi pineapple slicer out, and the core comes with it.
I can’t promise that you won’t have a bit of a juicy mess on your counter, but that delicious fruit that tastes like sunshine to me is worth it!
The Aldi pineapple slicer:
- Peels, cores and slices pineapple in seconds
- Makes perfectly-shaped rings
- Has dual-action stainless steel blades for accurate cutting
- Preserves pineapple rind to use as a bowl or cup
- Has an ergonomic handle with a nonslip grip
- Is suitable for 3- to 5-lb. pineapples
- Comes in blue, green or yellow
The Aldi Pineapple Slicer is due back in Aldi stores on June 16th. I have seen versions of this slicer selling online for up to $20, but at Aldi, you’ll pay just $4.99 for this indispensable tool that you can use every summer.
