Lots of people in that era were into ceramics. They would go to ceramics shops, where they would choose unfinished ceramic items, paint them, and leave them to be fired in a kiln to reach their fullest hardened, glossy potential.
Sooner or later, every person into ceramics brought home a lighted ceramic Christmas tree. Come on now, you know what I’m talking about, right?
My mom didn’t just stop at one ceramic Christmas tree. Oh no. We exceeded expectations at my house. I distinctly remember there being at least five of these ceramic trees at my house in the early 1980s, painted to match the decor in certain rooms. I especially remember a beautiful white one with a translucent green glaze and all-white lights in our living room. It perfectly matched our pale green velvet couches.
Mom is gone now, and so are those couches and most of our Christmas decor. While I can’t say I would ever want those, ahem, lovely couches back, I sure do wish I knew what happened to those ceramic Christmas trees!
Aldi Ceramic Christmas Trees
And there must be a lot of people out there like me, because a wave of nostalgia has led to high demand for this vintage-style Christmas decor lately. These things have sold for prices of up to $60 to $70 in some stores.
But once again, Aldi is coming through for us.
The Aldi Ceramic Christmas Trees are being sold under the “Merry Moments” brand name. They were so popular in 2019, 2020 and 2021, that Aldi is bringing them back for the holiday season in 2022!
Merry Moments LED Nostalgic Trees will be in Aldi stores starting October 26th, 2022 (Oct 25th in stores with Sunday ad switchover) and are priced at $19.99 each.
- White or Green
- 14″
- Hand-painted ceramic tree
- Includes traditional faceted multicolored bulbs with super bright LEDs
- Requires three C batteries (not included)
- Includes 6-hour on/18-hour off timer function
In addition to the large green and white ceramic trees, a mini green Merry Moments LED Nostalgic Tree is also in stores for $12.99!
- Hand-painted ceramic
- Includes traditional faceted multicolored bulbs with super bright LEDs
- Requires 2 AA batteries (not included)
- Includes 6-hour on/18-hour off timer function
Each tree is battery-operated and the bulbs DO NOT come out. We see this as a plus because the plastic lights won’t fall out, which is very typical of other brands of ceramic Christmas trees, and therefore do not need to be replaced.
Both versions of these trees have multi-colored lights.
We didn’t have one of these trees, but I wanted one. I was able to snag a green one at my store. Thanks. Aldi

The Aldi stores in my area of Niagara Falls New York only received 2 at my store and 7 at another store near me. Are more trees going to be shipped these Aldi stores? They were all sold out in 2019. They remind me of the one my mother had. Thanks.

None of the Aldi stores in my area received these at all.
I can’t get mine to work unless I push the Try Me button. Any words of wisdom?
Kristen did you ever figure it out because I’m having the same problem! ????
Me too. Someone please help!
Rip the whole push me wire out!
You have to remove the “try me” wire. Unplug this wire from the bottom and discard it. Then the two AA batteries will work!
